As we prepare to celebrate the 200th anniversary years we are developing a “Save the Shrine” campaign. This campaign is aimed at raising the necessary funds to restore and preserve our buildings. First, we want to thank you as supporters and friends for past donations. We also hope you will continue to donate any amount you are able to do. All donations are important at any level. At the same time, we invite you to join in a special anniversary-donating group called the 200 Club.
The 200 Club will honor our members and friends who make a special gift of $200 or more, above their regular membership contribution.
Your dollars will help prepare our buildings for the celebration to commemorate 200 years of service to the community. The development of St. Ferdinand Parish now St. Ferdinand Shrine, paved the way for the development of our country. Appreciation for all donations will be noticed by publishing your name in our newsletter and for those donating $200 or above will have a nameplate mounted to an honor board outside of our Rectory Office.
St. Ferdinand Shrine Convent built in 1819 predates Missouri being accepted as a state. The Church 1821 came just after statehood. Two more buildings, the Rectory built in 1840 and the Schoolhouse 1888 complete the buildings standing today. The Friends of Old St. Ferdinand participate in many fund raisers throughout the year to keep the Shrine Open. Our fund raisers include giving tours, rental of our schoolhouse hall for celebrations, participation is festivals i.e. Valley of Flowers Festival, Florissant Fall Festival, three day Christmas Celebration, Feast Day Celebration, Wedding, Funerals, weekly Book Sale and many more. However the monies raised must go for normal expenses and minor repairs. A 200-years old complex needs a great deal of tender care.
We need your support, the need is critical – we must raise at least $400,000 to keep our doors open. Help us continue to show to others how important the Florissant area has been to our state of Missouri and to the development of the United States! We can demonstrate this by keeping our buildings in great condition. Remember, St. Ferdinand Shrine is on the National Register of Historic Places!
We accept all donations, we need everyone to participate so that our Shrine will be saved. When sending in a check, make your check payable to Friends of Old St. Ferdinand. If you choose to join the 200 club, make your check payable to the Friends of Old St. Ferdinand Shrine and mark “200 Club” in the memo section on the lower left. Be sure to affix your return address with the donating name that you want for the newsletter list and honor board entry.
Checks should be sent to Friends of Old St. Ferdinand #1 rue St. Francois, Florissant MO 63031
Thank you for extra support during preparation for this special period beginning in 2019!
